February 1, 2011

Greetings in Christ!

We have arrived at month two of 2011. Already God is blessing us in so many ways in 2011. We pray that you will be a part of “Reflecting His Light”.

We welcome the circuit counselors who joined us yesterday along with several other people who are enjoying the teaching of Ted Kober of Ambassadors of Reconciliation. Their event is the kick-off to a very busy February.

Our brochures are out to past campers and will soon be arriving at your congregation. We changed the format of the brochures this year and one thing got left out. We are offering two discount programs that weeklong youth campers can take advantage of. If you register by April 1, you can take off $20 from your registration. In addition, if children invite someone to come to camp to learn more about Jesus, they will receive a “reflector discount” of $20 per camper up to $200 off! There are more details available at our website.

Men’s Retreat is coming up later this month. It should be a great event with plenty of snow for skiing, broom ball, snowmobiling, and plenty of other outdoor activities. This year the program will be held in the chapel and Messiah Hall. Sign up for the weekend or just for Saturday. On-line registration is now available for the Men’s Retreat. February 18-20.

Women’s Retreat – Jan Struck and Kim Wagner will be featured speakers for our annual Women’s Retreat. You won’t want to miss it. This April retreat will bring women from around the state. April 8-10.

Winter Adventure – We love to have younger kids at camp and our Winter Adventure is about the only time 8-12 year olds can be at camp in the winter time. We are excited about all the activities we have planned including a trip to Thumper Pond Water Park, tubing, broom ball, cross country skiing, and lots of other great activities. Bible study and devotions will highlight a great weekend.

Polar Plunge – each year we host our polar plunge on the last Saturday of February. Last year we had 60 or so youth and adults who took the plunge. Some use the opportunity to raise funds for good causes. In addition to the plunge we’ll have other great activities including Bible study, devotions, and a visit to Thumper Pond Water Park. Come as a group or sign up individually.

VBS – Appleton, New York Mills, and Henning have already committed to having LIC staff work with their VBS programs. We’ll be spending a week with each group. Our staff can make use of our Reflecting His Light program or we can use materials the congregation selects. We still have about 5 weeks available for the summer of 2011, but we need to know as soon as possible to make sure we have adequate staff.

Registrations are already running well ahead of last year. We have nearly 450 youth already committed to come to camp this summer compared to about 100 last year at this time. It is especially important to register for Horse Camp, Young Scientist, and Fishing Camp as they fill up quickly.

During the month of February we’ll be having our I love a Camper appeal. Funds received will be used to underwrite costs of camp, fund camperships, and support our outreach programs. We ask congregations to consider having a special offering during February and encourage individuals to donate on-line.

We have 3 Day Camps scheduled this summer at camp. They will be held in June and again in August. These camps are for children 5 to 12 years of age. Check out our website under Explorer Camps for more information. If you live in the St. Cloud be watching for more information about our Day Camp program there June 28-July 2nd.

Upcoming Jamborees: Camp jamborees scheduled in February include: Ottertail, Henning, Parkers Prairie, Long Prairie, and New York Mills.

Question and Answer Question: When will you be hiring summer staff? Answer: We have already started to interview staff and will likely finalize staff by the end of February or early March.
