Greetings in Christ!
We pray that today’s difficult driving conditions will not affect you too much. God has blessed us with the beauty of a nice snowfall which has cast a cleanliness on our brown surfaces. Once we are past the initial difficulties, we hope you will enjoy the beauty of this time of year.
Can you imagine being surrounded by shoppers in the local mall with Christmas music playing in the background when suddenly a hundred or more of your fellow shoppers break out singing Handel’s Messiah? Well, that is what has happened recently a result of a program called Random Acts of Culture. If you would like to be touched by this remarkable event, go to our homepage and click on Handel’s Messiah. You’ll be taken to a You Tube video that will make your heart sing! Or you can click here .
We continue to get calls about Family Reunions for the coming years (yes, both 2011 and 2012). We provide a wonderful location for your self-directed or camp directed event. Many families have come to understand what a bargain a Lutheran Island Camp family reunion can provide. We provide food, lodging, facilities, and spiritual support through prayers and devotions for a low price. We have several weekends with room still available for Summer 2011 and 2012.
This Sunday we will be having our first Island Christmas Dinner. Chris Maland of Henning will be providing vocal entertainment. We’ll also provide sleigh rides, hot cider and chocolate, Christmas carols, reading the Christmas story, and a fabulous dinner all for $15. To sign up, just give us a call or e-mail us. We have three more dinners scheduled for December 10, 11, and 12. You can check out the entertainment at our website. Click on Island Christmas Dinners on the Home Page.
Our Servant Events continue to attract attention from around the country. Our July 1015 Servant Event is now full. We still have room in other events. We have 13 different events scheduled for 2011 including events at Lutheran Island Camp, Christ Serve Ranch (when purchased), and Inger, Minnesota.
Our Winter Adventure is coming up in February (11-13) and we don’t want your 8-12 year old to miss out. We already have one large group scheduled for that weekend so it’s not too early to be thinking about signing up your child or group or children. We’ll likely have a bus coming up from southern Minnesota.
Brian Young will be joining us again for our Teen Trek Winter Extravaganza in January. You won’t want to miss his presentations or the great activities that are scheduled including a trip to Thumper Pond Water Park. This would be a great event for your youth group or for a few of your friends. Check out our website for more information.
Are you ready to take the plunge? The Polar Plunge! It’s coming up in February and we already have groups from around the state signing up.
MAWFCA – We now have over 60 congregations that have gone through training with many working on their efforts right now. Others will be having their appeals early in 2011. Watch for a new Messenger newsletter coming soon.
Development – We wanted to give you an update on our An Amazing Day effort in October. We ended up with well over $31,000 during the month of October and still have been receiving additional gifts. We also want to thank the many LWMLs that have recently sent us their annual Christmas gifts. We also received a wonderful gift from a pastor and his family directed toward the purchase of Christ Serve Ranch. We continue to receive gifts directed toward the chapel and recreation hall to finish that project off. Thank you to all!
Question and Answer: Question: Is the Summer 2011 schedule set? Answer: Yes, we’ll be posting it soon. We still have a few decisions to make, but we hope to have Summer 2011 up on our website with dates, rates, and more very soon.
