Camperships and Scholarships
God has blessed Lutheran Island Camp and Retreat Center with many generous donors. These include individuals, families, congregations, organizations, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Together nearly 40% of our annual budget is covered by these gifts. In essence, those gifts provide a campership, a bridge, for every child and family that attends camp. Even so, there are some children whose families can not afford to send them to camp. Click here to download a donation form.
How can you help? We have several suggestions:
- Encourage your congregation to provide at least half of the cost of a week at camp. Many congregations cover even more.
- Donate to the Tommy Shult Memorial Campership Fund at camp. These donations allow us to provide discounts and camperships to those in need.
- Continue to provide unrestricted gifts to camp so that fees are kept low. We've been able to keep our rates at the same level for three years, due in large part to generous donors.
In 2008 we will be reaching out to several new areas of the upper Midwest to encourage young people to attend our Young Scientist Camp. The cost will be $350 per child for a 7-day week. For many youth in our parochial schools, families can not afford both school tuition and a week at camp, often with expenses of transportation. As a family or congregation you can help that child from Omaha, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, or other city who has never experienced time in the country let alone at a Bible camp or Creation-Science Environmental Learning Center. A gift of $500 will cover the cost of the camp, cover transportation, and give them some spending money. Be a Young Scientist sponsor and provide a bridge to the future.
If you know of a child who needs help, please have the family get in touch with us. We want no child ever turned away from camp because of finances.
