![]() Our mission is to support the ministry of proclaiming and confessing Jesus Christ by nourishing the spiritual growth of those we serve, strengthening their service in Christ's name. Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Mark 2:17 |

| A very special lady to Lutheran Island Camp was called home to her eternal rest. Back in 1964 she and her husband made the nearly 4 hour trip from St. Cloud up old Highway 10 to Lutheran Island Camp. As they arrived on that Sunday, both were amazed at the beauty of the remote Island they had never before visited. They deposited their two oldest sons for a week of camp under the tutelage of Reverend Herman Hannemann, then of Hinckley, Minnesota. Over the next 44 years that trip would be repeated hundreds of times by members of the family. Their oldest son would become the first full-time director; the second son would be life-guard and caretaker and later plan his retirement across the lake from the Island and offer his and his wife’s services as volunteers; all five children, three of their spouses, and two grandchildren have worked at the Island for a total of over 40 years; three children would meet their spouses there; two grandchildren were baptized at camp; one child was married at the Island. Over the years, they contributed thousands of dollars, never in big amounts but as they could afford it and sometimes not afford it. When the vision of Christ Serve Ranch was first laid out, they were one of the first to ask to see the property. She spent hours taking photos of plants, trees, trails, deer and more. They made a substantial pledge to help with the purchase of it saying; “this can only help the Island we love”. They became advocates for Christ Serve Ranch and Creation-Science, inviting groups and individuals to come up and see it, making the trip themselves many times. Yesterday he made the trip for the first time without her, bringing up $1,000 worth of memorials already given in her memory. He had a chance to visit with Brian Young to hear how the first Young Scientist event had gone, then we took a trip past the ranch; then on up to Perham to see the horse camp. He was amazed at how wonderful the horses looked and at the smiling faces of 14 youth who greeted him. “This is nice”, he said, “ but we need to buy the ranch so it is all closer to camp.” We know it will happen according to God’s will, but now we know that we have an advocate in heaven who is bending His ear about how important “her” Christ Serve Ranch is. Thanks for the past 44 years from a very grateful staff and board of directors. Mrs. E. Ellen Schultz, wife of Reverend Wm Schultz of Clear Lake, passed away on June 16, 2008. Thank you Lord for her faithfulness. http://www.bensonfuneralhome.com/obituary_display.php?id=569 |

Enthusiasm over the creation of Christ Serve Ranch, a ministry extension of Lutheran Island Camp, is beginning to spread amongst the young people of the Minnesota North District. The kids at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Benson raised a total of $243.00. The ACT at Trinity Lutheran in Staples have given a gift of $500. They have joined other Sunday Schools, VBS programs, ACT/LYF, and other young people in working toward a goal of $100,000 raised in the next two years to aid the camp in purchasing a piece of property about six miles from camp that will house the Creation-Science Environmental Learning Center, horseback program, and other camp offerings that cannot take place or be developed on the Island. Youth groups throughout our district will be doing bake sales and other fundraisers to help support Christ Serve Ranch and the Creation-Science Environmental Learning Center, which will be located at the Ranch. If your youth would like to participate, they can contact Lutheran Island Camp at 218-583-2905 or Tim Wells, Chairman of the Youth Involvement Team at 218-631-3000. Tim is the DCE at St. John Lutheran in Wadena. |

| Pastor Kirk Lee and Executive Director Ken Erlandson decided to jump together. Both reported the water was "cool". |

| Pastor Lee, usually well-mannered, climbed out first. Ken waited patiently, screaming "Help me! Help me!" |

| Josh Anderson sold t-shirts and took pledges to help cover the cost of purchasing insulin pumps for his two seven-year old twins who both have diabetes. He raised nearly $5,000, some of which was matched by the local Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter. |

| Josh jumped three times; once for each of his sons. There were those present who questioned his sanity. Those of us who know him, didn't question it at all. We know he is crazy. |
