Our mission is to support the ministry of proclaiming and confessing Jesus Christ by nourishing the spiritual growth of those we serve, strengthening their service in Christ's name.

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:14 (New International Version)

Lay Leadership and Elders Training Retreat

Ted Kober

Ted Kober has traveled the world training clergy and lay people in church reconciliation and leadership.

Lay leaders play important roles in the life of the congregation. But while often gifted and trained in other vocations, lay leaders rarely receive training for their unique roles in the congregation. This results in quality leaders experiencing frustration while disappointing their professional church workers, other leaders, and congregational members. In worst case scenarios congregations suffer from a lack of trained leadership, unresolved conflict, apathy, and people leaving the church. In other words, the work of Christ and His message are weakened.

The first area of training for this workshop provides some reflections on what Scriptures teach regarding lay leadership roles. You will review what your congregation's governing documents and policies state regarding your roles and then you will have the opportunity to see some sample documents that have been used in other congregations. You will learn practical ideas for fulfilling your responsibilities toward your pastor and other church workers.
In the second area, since every church experiences conflict, you will be given biblical and practical training for helping people in conflict reconcile and resolve conflict. You will explore the idolatry that is revealed in conflict, so that you can bring healing through the application of the Gospel. Part of this experience will include self-reflection exercises and opportunity for personally receiving God's grace.
The Training will begin with registration at 7:00 pm on Friday evening and will go through noon on Sunday. Pastors who must return to their congregations for Sunday services should plan to leave after 3:00 pm on Saturday. A special pastor rate of $80 is available for those pastors who must leave. Lay people are encouraged to remain for the entire session as specific training for laypeople will be done Saturday evening and Sunday.
